Screening of “The Children in the Pictures” and Panel Discussion

The AiLECS Lab is proud to present a screening of the documentary film The Children in the Pictures at Monash University on Thursday 2 June. The film goes inside the world-renowned Taskforce Argos, exploring their work in rescuing children from online sexual exploitation.   The film will be introduced by its co-director Simon Nasht, one of Australia’s most experienced documentary filmmakers.

In conjunction with the screening, we are hosting a panel session that will explore the interplay between rights to privacy and online safety.

Our panelists are:

Melissa Castan (Panel chair)
Associate Professor and Director, Castan Centre for Human Rights Law at Monash University

Doug Boudry
Commander of Covert and Technical Operations at the Australian Federal Police

Ed Santow
Industry Professor, Responsible Technology at University of Technology Sydney and Australia’s Human Rights Commissioner 2016-2021

Amy Liberman
Monash Engineering/Law student, researcher and member of the DeepNeuron Law and Ethics Committee

At this event, the AiLECS Lab will also be launching our newest groundbreaking initiative aimed at strengthening ethical data approaches to countering child exploitation online – one that we will need your help to achieve.
