Scope
Realising the benefits of AI for law enforcement and community safety in an ethical and transparent manner requires expertise and perspectives beyond the purely technological. The AiLECS lab thus works with researchers from computer science and information technology, law and the humanities (criminology and ethics). We are also further broadening our scope of interdisciplinary projects and are actively seeking collaboration opportunities within academia, industry and government.
Within this theme, for example, we are working on AI in judicial contexts where explainability of algorithms is crucial. We are also working on the technical, criminological and legal responses to deepfake technologies given their potential serious harms via image-based abuse.
